Self-Help: Pathology Action Plan Tutorial
Action Plan is a new step to the old Provider Review process in Log Book. With the addition of action plans, providers will be able to specify the next steps for a specimen after they have reviewed the results from the lab.
First, action plans will need to be set up for the practice. To set up action plans, go to the Pathology Overview page and select Action Plan under the Setup section.
Then, you should see a list of all the action plans available to your practice on this page.
On this page you can view and edit existing action plans as well as add new action plans.
Selecting either of these options will pop up a modal that will allow you to fill out the specifics of the action plan.
The first field is for the name of the action plan. The Associated Lab Recommendation field will tie the action plan to a follow-up recommendation from the lab that is also shown on the details page for the lab order (found in Log Book by clicking on the order #). The Suggested Appointment Type field contains a list of all appointments available to the practice and allows you to tie the action plan to a particular appointment. This will allow providers to document what the next steps are for specimens and detail if there is a specific lab recommendation related or if a type of appointment should be scheduled in the future for that specimen. Eventually, this could lead to streamlining the scheduling process for follow-ups or future appointments for the patient.
Also, the action plan can be set up to show that a follow-up appointment is required or not. This follow-up requirement setting will affect the way the Patient Notified status lollipop works, and since the Log Book status lollipops were updated recently, you will find a brief explanation of the status lollipops here.
To assign action plans to specimens, hover over the ellipsis menu to view the actions available for the lab order and select Action Plan.
Then, the Create Action Plan modal will pop up which will allow you to select the appropriate action plan and add notes.
